In addition to being part of the British Columbia Provincial Race Series, Kelowna hosts the Canadian National Triathlon Championships (Sprint, Olympic and Elites), the ITU Pan American Cup and the Western Canadian Kids of Steel Youth Championships as well as FINA Open Water Swims.
The Apple is also a qualifier for the 2011 World Championships in Beijing.
There is still enough time to start training for events such as the Olympic relay, Sprint triathlon or Business Challenge Sprint Relay or Try-a-Tri!
The sunny weather in the Okanagan Valley, kilometres of Kelowna's beautiful beaches, the pristine warm water in Lake Okanagan, an international airport and many golf courses, wineries and orchards - there is an abundance of reasons for you and your family or friends to join one of the largest triathlon events in Canada on August 20-22.
Race director Randy Sparrow says: " We have improved the course, featuring again the legendary and hugely popular Knox Mountain climb on the bike course as well as safe, scenic and quiet run courses. All swims take place in the safe area of Tugboat Beach in Lake Okanagan. We have also made sure that the course is friendly to Athletes with a Disability. "
The Apple Triathlon truly has a race for everyone! Besides age group races in the Sprint and Olympic distances, the Kelowna event will feature Kids of Steel races and camps, Try-a-Tri, Aquathon, FINA open water swims as well as exciting Elite and Junior Elite races.
Registration on Sunday is limited to the first 1200 registrants. Find out more here.
The Elite race is shaping up to be exciting, with Paula Findlay being unstoppable this year. Paula won the gold medal in her first-ever World Championship Triathlon Series race on the Olympic course in London, England on July 24!
