‘Kelownians’ came out tops in the men’s Try-a-Tri event at the Pushor Mitchell Kelowna Apple Triathlon. Nearly 140 competitors completed the 300 m swim, 15 km bike, 3 km run in good spirit and sunny weather on Saturday morning.

1st: 45:40 Chris Beausoleil, Kelowna
2nd: 45:57 Jasper MacKenzie, Kelowna
3rd: 49:23 Steve Hilscher, Kelowna
Females
1st: 50:41 Katherine Holland, Langley
2nd: 51:14 Janet Slaney, Kelowna
3rd: 52:09 Terra Cochrane, Vancouver
The Kids of Steel showed their determination and endurance in the swim, bike and run event. Distances vary according to age groups.
In the girl’s age group 8-9 years Avery Movold of Prince Rupert finished first in 22:02 with Joshua Humphries of Winnipeg winning the boys 8-9 in 19:45. Boys Age group 10-11 was won by Sam Ogden of Victoria in 25:46 and Kelowna’s Kyra McNulty winning the girls in 26:11. Eric Evans of Victoria was the winner in the boys 12-13 section in 36:42 and Megan Kinghorn of Victoria in the girls in 37:03 . Winner for boys 14-15 was Connor Foreman of Victoria in 39:46 and Maya Munzar of Cobble Hill won the girl’s race n 43:14.
The 16-19 age group race of 750 m swim, 20 km bike and a 5 km run was won for the 2nd year in a row by Fraser Cashion of Port Coquitlam in 1:01:02 and Alexandra Stasiuk was first female in with 1:09:48.
The sunny and low to mid 20 Celsius temperature expected tomorrow (Sunday) offers ideal weather for the Age group Sprint and Olympic distances as well as the Elite races. The Age Group Sprints and Olympic distances start around 07:15am and the Female Elite race around 11:30 am. The Men’s Elite race starts at around 1:45pm from Tugboat beach. Final times are to be confirmed at Pre-Race meetings.
